The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.  The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes.  Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.


In WFP Algeria, the Job holders will report directly to the Deputy Country Director, in close collaboration with the Head Of Program
Job holders are likely to be working under the close support and guidance of a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed. They are typically involved in programme or policy activities or similar nature and analytical work of limited complexity. 


Education: Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Languages: Fluency (level C) in English and French required. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of Arabic or Spanish desirable.


WFP is in the process of developing new activities complementary to traditional food distribution. To date, hydroponics production of green fodder has been piloted and is ready for scale-up.  Other ideas such as fish farming and goat breeding have been proposed to donors to seek their interest. WFP is looking for a National Officer (NO) to support the hydroponic project in Tindouf and implement new activities as soon as funding is available. In addition, the NO will foster for the use of the CBT modality where and when possible (options under discussion are the use of SCOPE cards for GFD with data base managed by WSRC, specifc group targeting -for example celiacs and social cases, and over and above regular programme- , and GFD pilot)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)


  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the complementary activities, and CBT modality where and when appropriate, and provide project management support
  • Follow up data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained
  • Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reponting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Liaise with external counterparts ( NGO and local authorities) to ensure effective collaboration, monitor ongoing projects and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  • Give input and orientation for strategic programming
  • Support resource mobilization and advocacy
  • Other as required.

• Has Taken leadership in implementing programmes
• Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions
• 5 - 7 years of work experience
• Experience in the sahrawi refugee context is a plus
• Agricultural backgroud is a plus


  • Contract & Duration : Fixed-term, 12 Months ( Renewable)
  • Remuneration: As per UN salary scales 
  • Duty station: Tindouf - Algeria
