Managing and lead the Data science team including the DATA Scientists, Engineers and Analysts to ensure the full strategy alignment and achieve the Data monetization projects , CVM & Customer experience uses cases.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Oriented

  • Being a Subject Matter Expert in Data Management: this includes devising, getting buy in and delivering governance structures, building confidence in data with senior stakeholders and setting up data management capabilities within client organizations.
  • Delivery of high quality advisory and/or technical services to the business
  • Leading management resources and business teams on projects
  • Taking business on their journey towards better information, working with them as a partner
  • Building lasting relationships with business stakeholders
  • Developing & evolving processes within the domain and across BI Tech essential for the function of the domain
  • Works with project teams and business contacts to understand their analysis and reporting requirements and ensures the design and delivered solution meets those needs
  • Lead and deliver voice of the customer insights and solutions to drive digital sales and improve customer experience
  • Taking the initiative to learn new data sources as required supporting the analysis needs of the business customers
  • Translate business questions into data requirements and valuable use cases
  • Build partnerships with the Business and IT across all levels of associates
  • Responsible for quality assuring the deliverables against the agreed quality assurance standards
  • Anticipate and continuous searching of opportunities to improve performance, response times and optimization of the decision support process, tools and platforms made available to users including the Big DATA and CVM tools 
  • Innovate, propose and convince the management of new use cases or new product related to the CVM or any source of data monetization 

Technical duties

  • Provide and manage solutions for the Data Monetization based on the Big data tools and Uses cases.
  • Ensure and manage the full integration with VEON and Micro Services.
  • Partnering with data scientists and business teams to better understand their data needs. Supporting business-facing big data. tools and driving the adoption of the big data environment.
  • Provide guidance and platform selection advice for common Big Data (Hadoop) platforms.
  • Design data flow and processing pipelines for ingestion and analysis using Sqoop, Flume, Hive, Kafka, Kudu and Pig.
  • Provide data management expertise to the business in evaluating requirements and developing data architecture and Big Data solution design.
  • Coordinate activities with data source application owners to ensure integration with data warehouse and source systems.
  • Manage and grow the hardware and software infrastructure that runs our high-volume, high-availability big data analytics solution.
  • Ensure appropriate capacity and system monitoring are in place.
  • Participate in project planning sessions with project managers, business analysts and team members.

People & teams management

  • Structure the Data science teams to most effectively support the business demands
  • Recruit, manage, motivate, coach and develop all teams members
  • Ensure adequate load balancing and succession planning
  • Qualified resources recruitment, motivation, retention, backup and cross-functioning
  • Create a team-work environment ensuring full professional management of the IT team with full discipline in all job aspects.

Budget & Vendor Management


  • Effective budget planning and follow-up as per CAPEX and OPEX plans and guidelines.
  •  Budget preparation and optimization, PR/PO follow-up with effective accrual and delivery
  • Vendor management of all the Big Data systems through periodic follow-up and end-to-end vendor evaluation
  • Ensure that all application contracts and services are acquired through proper vendor negotiation and management process in order to achieve a win-win relationship with our partners with best possible and cost effective deals to manage our CAPEX and OPEX
  • Ensure implementation of company and holding procurement and systems strategy.
  • Effective and periodical measurement and tracking of vendor performance


Education: Degree in Computer Science (BAC+5)

Experience :

  • 8+ years of work experience in the Big data and data science domains
  • 5+ years of management experience          

Technical Skills:

  •  Strong experience with major Big data technologies and frameworks including but not limited to HortonWorks, Cloudera, Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Impala, HBase, Oozie, Mahout, Flume, Kafka, Spark, ZooKeeper, MongoDB, Kudu, Presto and Cassandra; 
  • Experience on programming and scripting languages such as Java, Python and R; 
  • Hands-on experience on large scale Project Management
  • Data Science and Analytics experience is a plus (Machine Learning, Recommendation Engines, Search Personalization); 
  • Strong experience in applications design, development and maintenance; 
  • Practical expertise in performance tuning and optimization, bottleneck problems analysis;
